It is because of the "impulse-momentum" principle in physics. When the falling egg strikes the ground, it has a sudden change in momentum. By the impulse-monemtum formula: impulse (= force x time of impact) = change in momentum For a given change in monemtum, the same impluse can be provided by lengthening of the time of impact, thus lowering the imapct force. The use of the foam is provide for a "short distance" that the egg could move, by compressing the foam, when the box is hitting the ground. This tends to lengthen the time of impact, and thus leads to a lower impact force which may not be strong enough to break the egg.

應該是因為海棉有卸力的作用,而且紙皮箱有保護的作用,雞蛋的表面也有卸力的作用(它是曲面的).
